Ballet

What is Classical Ballet?

Ballet-girls_opt

Ballet originated in the courts during the Italian Renaissance, and was based on the social dances of the day. It further developed in the french court of Louis XIV where the 5 positions of the feet found in classical ballet are said to have been defined. Over the centuries this evolved into what we call classical ballet today.

Frequently Asked Questions

We take children (both boys and girls) from the age of 4 years as well as adults who wish to become dancers or to improve the awareness of their body through dancing.

The benefits of ballet are numerous and anyone who delves into balletic training will see an increase of physical stamina, flexibility and endurance. The kind of self discipline that this art imbibes can be extrapolated to other areas of the dancers life, as learning to co-ordinate oneself physically to music, has be shown to increase creativity and spacial awareness, as well as academic performance in children.

With prior notice, if any student is unable to attend class for 2 or more weeks consecutively, ‘make-up’ classes are allowed at the various centres of the city with the permission of the teacher/administration.

Our teachers Yana Lewis, Elina Wisung and Sushmitha Margad are all internationally qualified ISTD/RAD faculty. For more information, do visit the Team page in the ABOUT US section.

Classical Ballet being a fine art takes years to master, and as a result, is subjective to the frequency of training, artistic nature of the dancer, natural ability as well as quality of the training that he/she undertakes. It requires an immense amount of discipline, hard work and dedication to gain control over one`s body and use it to express art beyond technique.

The ISTD consists of 10 grades and these grades offer various checkpoints in the development of the dancer and is a true indicator of the skills acquired as one progresses through the levels of the syllabus.
